Act 1, Scenes 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 Summary

Scene 22 - Second Conversation between Corday and Duperret: The Herald directs The Audience's attention away from Marat and onto Corday and Duperret, commenting (perhaps with irony) on the purity of their love. He prompts Corday to recall her first line, and she and Duperret discuss their hopes and dreams for the day when humanity will live in harmony. Again, the inmate playing Duperret sexually pursues Corday, and again Corday resists. Despite her being led away by attendants, the inmate playing Duperret is sexually satisfied, and embraces her peacefully at the end of the scene.
