Summary

In Chapter 8, Askar recalls occasionally returning to Kallafo to visit Misra. One day, he returned to Mogadisicio with malaria and suffered a fever for a week. He continued to speak to Hilaal of the war. Hilaal said that if Somalia lost, a large number of Somali people would have to flee from Ogaden territory to Somalia. Young Askar resolved to leave Mogadiscio one day to help liberate Ogaden from Ethiopian occupation. They discussed this because it appeared that Somali forces would soon be defeated by the Ethiopian army. A few months later, there was a large influx of Somali refugees in Mogadiscio. Many of the refugees were very poor and had no place to go. Askar recalls receiving his identification documents from Hilaal. The papers contained identity information regarding himself and his parents. The card was necessary for his enrollment in the nearby school...
