Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 3, Askar remembers an enigmatic dream he had as a child. In the dream, he was wandering in the wilderness. He encountered a man who said that, according to God, men are asleep and can only be awoken by death. Askar then awoke from the dream.

When Askar was 17 years old, he was deciding between applying to the Somali National University and joining the war against Ethiopia. At the same time, Hilaal told him that Misra had been seen in Mogadiscio. It was rumored that Misra had betrayed some Somali soldiers to the Ethiopians. Askar recalls when he was young and asked Misra about her menstruation. She said that only women menstruated. One month, when she did not menstruate, and Aw-Adan helped her to abort the fetus.
