Chapter 10 Summary
In the East End, kids are playing in the streets. As Magee passes through, a boy named Mars Bar Thompson jumps in front of him, trying to pick a fight. Mars Bar gets in his face and offers Magee a bite of his candy bar, hoping that Magee would run away. Instead Magee takes a bite and everyone is shocked. Mars Bar furthers aggressive behavior by claiming how "bad" he is. While Mars Bar means he is cool and tough, Magee thinks he means he is an awful person, and thus refuses to agree with Mars Bar. Mars Bar's attention is drawn to the book Magee is holding. Mars Bar claims the book is his and the two boys wrestle over it, ripping a page. One of the ladies who lives there breaks them apart.
