Chapter 8 Summary

Magee got the name Maniac because word began to spread about this boy who did all these amazing things around town, and everyone thought this kid must have been a maniac. With no home to go to Magee goes to the zoo and sleeps and eats in the buffalo pen. He finishes Amanda's book and liked it so much he reads it again and again. When he wasn't reading he was running around with the book in his hand.

Chapter 8 Analysis

In a short amount of time Magee has become famous. The nickname of the Maniac helps turn him into a legend. While the legendary status might seem like a wonderful thing, the big drawback for Magee is that it causes almost everyone, with the exception of Amanda, to see Magee as a supernatural being, instead of a normal, lonely boy.
