Chapter 6 Summary
At the Pickwell house, Mrs. Pickwell whistles out the back door to let her family know the dinner is ready. No matter where the Pickwell children were they could hear the whistle and they were never late for dinner. The ten children, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and a man down on him luck that Mr. Pickwell brought home, all sat around a ping-pong table for dinner. Magee also came for dinner, did not say a word, and left quietly. The Pickwell kids run out the door, along the railroad tracks and Magee begins running past them. The Pickwells are amazed to see that Magee is running on the thin steel rail.
Chapter 6 Analysis
The Pickwell family is very loving and generous so it is no wonder that Magee was drawn to the house. Throughout this book Magee will long for a loving home that he can call his own, especially one that reminds...
