Chapter 5 Summary

Magee's next appearance occurs at Finsterwald's house, a mysterious house whose owner is so feared that children avoid entering the yard at all costs. A boy named Arnold Jones is bum-rushed by a group of high school boys. He screams as they throw him into Finsterwald's backyard. As the high school boys watch for someone to come out of the house, Arnold is paralyzed with fear; his teeth chattering so loud the other boys can hear them. Out of nowhere Magee enters the backyard, causing Arnold to faint. Magee picks him up and takes him from the backyard to the front porch. When Arnold comes to, he quickly runs away, as Magee calmly remains on the porch reading the book he borrowed from Amanda.
