Tagomi is depressed the next day when he wakes. Tagomi cannot get up the enthusiasm to go to work; instead, he goes for a ride in a pedecab. Tagomi thinks the cable car might cheer him up so he rides that for a time. When that does not work, Tagomi decides he must get rid of the gun. Tagomi thinks if he gets rid of the gun, then his depression over killing the two Germans will go away. However, when Tagomi offers to sell the gun back to Childan, he learns that Childan no longer deals in guns. Childan shows Tagomi an array of jewelry that he promises will lift the spirit. At first Tagomi refuses but then decides to buy a piece of the jewelry, hoping it will help him feel better......
