Summary

In Chapter 39, Magnus has trouble sleeping. He lies awake, thinking about Alex. Eventually he gets up, and finds Samirah saying her morning prayer. After she finishes her prayer, Sam tells him that last night was the 27th nigh of Ramadan, which is traditionally considered the Night of Power. She explains that she prayed, and thought, and felt confirmed that there was a larger force at work in their lives. Magnus wishes to himself that he shared her faith.

Samirah begins to ask Magnus about Alex, but Skadi interrupts them, which Magnus is grateful for. They wake the rest of the group. Skadi serves them breakfast, which includes a cider brewed from the apples of immortality. She explains that the cider is diluted, and while it will not make them immortal, it will give them enough endurance to survive Niflheim. After breakfast, the crew...
