Summary

In Chapter 27, Magnus scrambles back through the tunnel, trying to avoid acid splashes as the dragon thrashes about. Once free, Magnus assess his body and finds that miraculously he has no injuries, though his clothes and shoes have been burnt by acid. He looks around the clearing and sees the dragon lying on his side, vomiting and twitching as he dies. Jack’s hilt sticks out from the dragon’s chest. Blitzen, Hearthstone, and Andiron stand next to the dragon’s snout.

The dragon continues to yell at Hearthstone as he dies. Hearthstone signs an apology to him, saying that he did not want things to turn out this way. Finally, the dragon goes still. Magnus expects him return to elf form, but he remains a dragon. Andiron tries to console Hearthstone, telling him they did their best and not to waste another...
