Dr.Julia Cates

Julia is the child psychiatrist who works with Alice and later becomes her adoptive mother. Ellie is her sister and Max is her love interest who later becomes her fiancé. She is an intelligent woman who is passionate about her job, however, she has problems relating to people outside of it. She is a fragile woman who takes setbacks in life very hard and personally.

At the beginning of the narrative, Julia has a book smart type of intelligence. She is a good psychiatrist as long as she can follow the information she has learned. The patient that leads to her disgrace shows that she may rely too much on her book knowledge. At one point, she finds herself saying the same thing to Alice that she would say to other patients.
