Chapter 17 Summary

Several months pass. A girl is walking the streets. This unnamed girl passes by throngs of people after their evening entertainment has ended. In their hurry to get out of the rain, they quickly walk past her and barely notice her presence. A few men notice her as she continues her walk to the end of the street at the river. She throws inviting glances at the men that do not have the look of the city on them. Examples of how men on the street react to her are illustrated throughout the chapter, all of which offer rejections or do not have the money to pay her. The unnamed girl continues to walk.....
