Chapters 20-22 Summary

In Chapter 20, JoLayne wakes up after a bad dream. She has been sleeping in a makeshift camp with Krome near Pearl Key, the island where Bode and Chub are hiding out. In their camp, Chub attempts to make Amber comfortable, but she has befriended Shiner. This makes Chub jealous. Amber asks about their plan and reveals the power struggle going on between Chub and Bode. At one point, Amber takes Chub aside and tells him that if he tries to rape her, she will lie perfectly still and not move. However, if he makes an attempt to be nice to her, she might one day willingly have sex with him. Chub agrees. As a token of their friendship, Amber gives Chub her Hooters' shorts.
