Summary

In Chapter 11, during a dinner with Nell, Ani’s friend commented on how thin Ani was getting. She added she was glad she was never getting married. When the waiter wished Ani a chilly congratulations on her upcoming wedding Nell noticed Ani was upset. She confessed to Nell she was not sure if she wanted to get married. When Nell asked Ani how she would feel if she called the wedding off, Ani said she would be sad because she loved Luke but in reality she loved the power she felt the engagement ring gave her. Ani complained she had invited Nell to eat with her because she wanted to feel better about her situation, not worse. Nell perkily lied to Ani about what a great guy Luke was, leaving an air of tension between them.
