Chapter 4 Summary

Jared is crying in the car on the drive home. Simon grabs him just before he hits Mallory who insists she did not steal the Field Guide. Their mother is furious that they are yelling and arguing in Aunt Lucy's room. Lucy has to be sedated from all of the fighting that occurs and their Mom is so mad at Jared she tells him that he should be glad he is not locked up in the asylum.

Simon suggests to Jared that Thimbletack stole the guide, which Jared realizes makes the most sense as the ultimate prank. When Jared and Mallory get out of the car, Mallory tells him again that she did not take the book. He believes her and tells her that he thinks Thimbletack stole the book.
