Point of View

The point of view of this novel is the third person point of view through the narration of the main character, Oliver Barrett IV. The narration of this novel, because it never moves into other character's voices, makes the story very tight and keeps the reader's attention on Oliver and his reactions to events that happen around him.

Oliver's voice throughout the novel is the prime source of the emotional impact of the novel. The reader feels the things that Oliver feels, especially at times of high stress or moments of intense emotion. The impact of the story would not be as deep as it is if it were not for the tight narration, as it is focused on Oliver.
