The first snow of the year falls and Stargirl feels as if the Earth has created a gift just for her. The dazzling white of winter covers up all ugliness, making it look pristine and fresh. She wishes snow could cover her entire relationship with Leo. When the first crocus of the year peeks from under the snow, Stargirl cries. For weeks, Stargirl mopes in her letters, trying to figure out what went wrong, how Leo high-jacked her heart, and why she's broken-hearted now. She tries to convince herself that she is not the only person on the planet who's ever had a broken heart, so why is she acting as if she is?
