Summary

When Louisiana returned to the motel, she discovered that Granny was gone, along with their car. She saw an envelope with her name on it and was immediately overcome by a feeling of fear. She tried to distract herself, thinking of Clarence, her friends in Florida, and her old teacher Mrs. McGregor. This old teacher taught her that the world revolved on an axis "infinitesimally." Louisiana felt the complete the opposite, that the world was always jerking from side to side. Finally, she opened the letter, knowing it was a letter of goodbye from the first sentences that urged her to be brave. Granny revealed that she was haunted by the curse, that an image of her father continually appeared and that she needed to return to Elf Ear to face the issue head on.
