Act 2, Scene 4 Summary
Ten months have gone by and Eddie has returned to get Jay and Arty. As the boys wait for their father to come out of Grandma Kurnitz's room, they talk about Uncle Louie, who has enlisted in the armed forces and is serving in Guadalcanal. Bella arrives home and is glad that the boys are still there since she has gifts for them: a basketball for Arty and a football for Jay. Eddie thanks Grandma Kurnitz for keeping the boys and has to leave the room before his emotions overtake him because he can't let Grandma Kurnitz see him cry. The boys kiss their grandmother goodbye, and Bella and Grandma Kurnitz are once more alone in the apartment. Bella shares with her mother that she has found a new friend and she would like to have her over for dinner some night. Bella disappears into the kitchen while Grandma Kurnitz...
