Chapter 9 Summary

A blood vessel breaks in Simon's nose, and his fit passes into sleep. He awakens, sees The Lord of the Flies on its stick, and wonders what else is there to do. He gets up and walks out onto a rock. A wind comes up and Simon sees a humped thing suddenly sit up and look down at him. He looked more closely and understood the mechanics of the parachute. He takes the lines in his hands and frees them from the rocks and the figure from the wind's indignity. He looks down at the platform on the beach and sees that the fire there is almost out, but he sees another trickle of smoke rising from further down the beach. He could see that most, if not all, of the boys were.....
