Ralph, Jack, and others are hunting the beast. They stop to eat some fruit. Ralph makes plans to clean himself up, wash his clothes, and cut the hair that keeps falling into his eyes. All of the boys are thoroughly filthy, their clothes nearly worn away. They are on the opposite side of the island which boasts their lagoon, and Ralph ponders the vastness of the sea.
