Chapter 6 Summary

During the night, a man, already dead, drifts down in his parachute from his exploded plane and lands on the mountain not far from the fire pit. The twins have fallen asleep during their fire-watch on the mountain-top. When they awaken and again get the fire going, one suddenly sees and points out to the other a dark shape lodged between some rocks where previously there was none. They run down the mountain and report to Ralph that they have seen the beast. Ralph calls an assembly. He merely holds up the conch instead of blowing it, and all the boys understand. Ralph hands the conch to the twins who tell of seeing the beast. Jack wants to hunt the beast and asks for volunteers. Ralph suggests putting Piggy in charge of the.....
