While Marnie is considering that she might be forced to fight for David, she gets a phone call from the ad man, Mr. Howard, who says that they've opted for another artist to design the phone book cover. When David arrives home, it's obvious that Marnie has been crying. She tells him about the phone book but he doesn't accept that there's nothing else wrong.
