How does the time period and settings of the novel shape the story?
Does Mr. Big really believe in voodoo or does he just use it to control his followers?
In reality does voodoo have such a strong pull in the African-American community, or is this played up for the novel? Do you think Fleming genuinely believes in this strong connection to voodoo or is he simply using it for dramatic effect in the novel?
