Book 3: Imago; Section 1: Metamorphosis Summary

In chapter one Jodahs, Lilith's child, says that metamorphosis came without warning which is unusual. Jodahs is twenty-nine in Human years but has yet to undergo metamorphosis. After the change Jodahs believes it will be male.

In chapter two Jodahs closest sibling, Aaor, links with Jodahs and says that something is wrong and tells Jodahs to go and see Dichaan. Nikanj instead comes to see Jodahs and check it. Nikanj is disturbed and announces that Jodahs will not be male but will be ooloi. Jodahs is afraid because there has never been an ooloi construct and it was decided long ago that any ooloi construct that was allowed to be created would be sent back to the ship to live under constant observation. Nikanj assures Jodahs that it will not be sent away.
