Chapter 5 Summary

Stella decides to overcome her shyness to approach a boy at her school, Larome Nolans. The rumor around school is Larome tried to sell a gun to an undercover cop. Because of this, Stella decides to try to get a gun through Larome. Larome mistakes her approach as an interest in dating him, so he kisses her. After kissing her, Stella tells him her real reason for approaching him.

While Stella is in the library, the English teacher, Mr. Muthler approaches her. He asks Stella about why the kids in class hate him. Also, he wants to know why she left the class after he left her in charge the previous day. His taking the class's reaction to him as personal reminds Stella of a time when she and her mom saw her third grade teacher shopping in the grocery store.
