Chapter 7 Summary

When the police arrive, they find the bodies and Chris and Laura virtually unharmed. Laura tells them that the drug dealer who had killed Danny had come for her, had hired hitmen fearing that she could identify them, and that she'd been on the run because she feared the police could not adequately protect her and her son. She proves to be an excellent marksman and has a small arsenal at her disposal, which prompts the police to believe at least some of her story. She gives up Fat Jack, who says that he holds no grudge against her, that no one owes anyone anything, and that he admires "broads like her." Laura refuses to give up the name of the man who was treated by Dr. Brenkshaw, saying that he would be greatly harmed by her revealing his name and insinuating that...
