Chapter 3 Summary

On January 12, 1977, Laura's twenty-second birthday, she's a student in college, has published a story called "Amphibian Epics" outlining her father's tales of Sir Tommy, and receives a ceramic toad figurine in the mail. Over the coming days, several more arrive, including two that show up on the dash of her locked car. She knows someone has gone to the trouble to unlock her car, place the figurine, and lock the car back. After a few more days with toads showing up in unusual places - including at the restaurant where she works - she's frightened that the giver is actually a stalker. Then she receives a very expensive figurine with an emblem from a nearby gift shop on the box.
