Part 3, Chapter 13 - Part 5, Chapter 24 Summary

Part 3, Chapter 13 - Barbara insists that her life as normally as possible, including returning to school. Lizard reluctantly agrees to this. Lizard then goes to High Side after school, for his mother has gone to Danbury to visit Nick. Lizard watches a rehearsal. After, a man in a black suit grabs Sylphide, delivering a "message" from a friend, and Lizard jumps to her rescue, breaking bones in the man's hand and arms. But Lizard is sprayed in the face with something, and passes out. The police are called, but are too late. The assailant gets away. Back home, the assailant has thrown the lawnmower through Lizard's window. He spends a restless night in the attic, sleeping fitfully with a baseball bat in hand.
