Chapters Twenty-one and Twenty-two Summary and Analysis

In Chapter Twenty-one, the hatred for Damien and Jason is so strong that on the first day of their trials, they wear bulletproof vests on their trip to court. As the days pass, though, Damien notices supporters begin to appear in the crowd. Damien writes that of all the people at the trial, the reporters were the worst because of the way they distorted the events and sometimes even told complete lies about what had taken place in the trial. For instance, the media had made a big deal reporting on the teeth marks found on the bodies of the dead boys, but never mentioned the finding that the teeth marks did not match Damien's teeth.
