Chapters Nine and Ten Summary and Analysis

In Chapter Nine, Damien's first year of high school is another bad experience for him. Other students begin to regard him as a freak. He does strike up a friendship with a boy named Brian who invites him to a Baptist youth gathering. Damien is surprised to find that he enjoys the group and goes back often. Damien is only chided once because the youth pastor believes that the way that he dresses makes him look satanic. Damien agrees to take off his trench coat but is told to put it back on when they see he is wearing an Iron Maiden shirt. Damien indicates that this experience caused much negative attention.
