Summary

Chapter 40 is written from the perspective of both Strike and Robin. Robin sneaks out of the house on a Wednesday morning to meet Strike. She is avoiding the reporter and Matthew. At the moment, she and Matthew are living in peace because, even though he was angry because they had to lose the reporter when they went to Sarah's and Tom's, she showed sympathy for him when Tom verbally attacked Matthew during the dinner. She is meeting Vanessa's friend from Forensics, Oliver, and Strike. Oliver is nervous during the meeting, but he answers their questions. Even though there are some questions about Chiswell's death, the notion of suicide is valid and Kinvara has an alibi. Also, on the morning of his death, Chiswell called both Kinvara and Raphael.
