Buck's colleagues are ticked that he gets to cover the story that others are already working on; the story related to the one world government. Buck is convinced that these stories are interrelated. Steve is convinced Buck should work on it despite the protestations of the other writers. Days later when Buck finally gets around to reaching Dirk again, he learns that Dirk is dead — the result of a suicide. Buck immediately knows that Dirk did not commit suicide. He suspects foul play. He arranges to go to London to visit a friend at Scotland Yard who also knows Dirk and can possibly give some information as to what happened.
