Ken Ritz picks Buck up from the Midpoint Motel to take him to the airport where he will then fly him to New York. As they share stories, Ken explains to Buck that although he does not know why the disappearances occurred, he does tend to believe far-fetched ideas such as UFOs. He notes, however, that those that have disappeared were all either under the age of twelve or had "unusual" personalities. Ken says that something set them apart from everyone else.
Rayford decides he wants to know as much as he can about the Rapture. He now believes that this is what happened with Irene and Ray. He picks up Irene's Bible and begins to read through it for some kind of clues. He begins at the Book of Revelation and reads that.....
