Rayford is home alone and trying to grapple with the loss of his wife and son. He feels regret that he had not believed them when they were around. He mourns their loss and longs for a sense of closure. His daughter still has not called from school so he has no idea if she is on her way home or not. He regrets, too, that she is not one of those among the missing either, since he now believes the rapture has occurred. Rayford eventually reaches Chloe's roommate at school and she tells him that Chloe is making her way back home to Chicago. Before finally going to sleep that night, Rayford puts the news on and sees Nicolae Carpathia for the first time.
