Summary

Chapter 23 is titled “Stuffed Animals in a Line.” Adam wakes to find Nattie throwing all her stuffed animals into a crate. She says she is going to sell them because they mean nothing to her anymore. Adam wants to tell her that they represent her childhood and that Adam loves them because of that, but he cannot bring himself to say the words. Later, he wakes again and the stuffed animals are gone. Adam draws them, lined up “like the years of her childhood” (Location 1083), and plans to give her the drawing at some point.
