Joan plans to act normally, and then simply walk out of town unnoticed. As she packs, she reads Stalked by Love, her novel, and finds the problem. She realizes Charlotte will have to walk into the maze, and closes her eyes to imagine the scene.
Charlotte enters the maze, unwinding a ball of knitting wool as she goes so she can find her way back. She makes her way to the center of the maze to find nothing but flowers and daffodils. Suddenly, she is frightened and turns to leave but becomes entwined in the yarn and falls. Felicia appears, and strangles Charlotte, but Redmond pushes her aside, and tends to Charlotte.
Joan knows this is a standard ending to the novel, but suddenly feels it is not right. She begins to think of places.....
