Summary

Book Five begins five hours in January 2004 after Kamu’s death as the attendants prepare new bodies. Nobody knows exactly how he died, as the police could not get anyone to tell the truth. So, they simply took notes and hauled the body away. However, on that same afternoon outside the village, Kande, a swarm of bees rush to the house of Misirayimu (Miisi), Kamu’s father. They rush into his guest room and stay there as the children rush out in a panic.

It is explained in Chapter Two that Miisi roams his dreams, but he does not remember them once he wakes up. He also grew up in a catholic seminary where he was taught that being awake, then sleeping, then waking up again is the equivalent of life, death, and rebirth...
