Summary

At the beginning of Chapter Seven, Faisi pretends the twins do not exist and is indifferent to the pregnancy. Ruth is upset as Faisi is as much of a sinner as her, but has never killed a child like Faisi claims. Faisi prays for godly wisdom and sends Ruth to Nakaseke-Bulemezi where Magda, Kanami’s heathen cousin, lives. Kanami takes her, but gets lost in the heathen town and Ruth is shocked to see fields of cotton. She admires Magda’s house and activity as Magda arrives. It is implied that Magda is actually Kanami’s sister, not cousin, but Kanami denies it. After offering to get Ruth an abortion, Magda asks what they want to do with the baby once it is born.
