Act 4, Scene 7 Summary
Cordelia, Kent, the doctor and the gentleman converse at the French camp. Kent asks Cordelia not to reveal his true identity until he sees fit, and Cordelia agrees. She asks the doctor how her father is, and the doctor says that he is still asleep. Cordelia prays that Lear will recover from his madness. The doctor thinks that the king has slept long enough and suggests that they wake him.
Servants carry Lear in on a chair, and the doctor and Cordelia wake him. At first, the king still seems muddled, but the doctor says to give him time. Finally, he recognizes Cordelia. Though needing careful treatment, he seems on the road to recovery. All leave except Kent and the gentleman. Kent confirms that the Duke of Cornwall is dead and says that Edmund is leading Cornwall's army. The battle is approaching and is liable to be bloody.
