Oswald meets Kent in front of Gloucester's castle. Kent immediately insults Oswald and picks a fight with him, calling Oswald every disparaging name he can think of. Kent reminds Oswald of their altercation, during which Oswald insulted King Lear, and Kent draws his sword. Oswald calls out, "Help, ho! Murder murder!" (line 44). Edmund, Cornwall, Regan, Gloucester and several servants respond to the ruckus and ask what is the matter.
Kent continues to insult Oswald and says he drew his sword because Oswald is a knave and because Kent doesn't like the look of him. Oswald denies doing anything to Kent. He says that King Lear hit him and that Kent manhandled him in an earlier incident. Cornwall and Regan put Kent in the stocks, although Gloucester protests that Kent's actions.....
