Summary

Chapter 5 begins with Kevin and Dana returning to their apartment in the 1970s. Rufus had shot at them, so Dana returned because her life was in danger. Since Kevin held onto Dana, he returned with her. After a restless night together, Dana woke up to seeing Kevin searching through books, muttering to himself. Dana spoke to him, and Kevin told her that he felt like being back at the apartment was just another “stopover” (171), and that he only felt at home at the Weylin plantation. Dana replied, saying that she felt the same way. While Kevin told Dana that he helped slaves escape when he was trapped in the 1800s for five years, Dana began to feel the dizziness that preceded her time travel. Kevin threw Dana’s bag to her, and Dana returned to the 1800s.
