Summary

In Part 1, Chapter 7, Renee frustratingly practices the piano, with Nina insisting she do so before going to hang out with Stephanie. Nina does not like the look of Stephanie. Nina worries about Regina being out beyond the community, as she knows the world is full of people who hate Israel and Jews. Nina wants Renee to grow up in the same kind of safe, contained community as she did. Renee, meanwhile, has only two friends at the Jewish school, and hates the other kids because of their drama. Renee also dislikes that her path as a girl is set: it will lead to marriage and supporting the family. Andras allows Renee to quit practice early and go see Stephanie. Nina is angry about this, believing ten years of lessons has gone to waste since Renee does not want to play anymore...
