Chapter 2 Summary

The reader is not left hanging for long. The Bowman family has arrived at a clinic in Puntarenas. They're meeting with a highly capable doctor, Dr. Cruz. Their daughter's arm is covered in multiple bites the size of a thumb print. Although Mike Bowman recalls a harrowing drive to the clinic from the beach, their daughter is safe now and recovering. The Bowmans describe the creature to the doctor and show him the picture their daughter drew. Although he does not recognize the creature, he refers them to another man who he believes can: Dr. Guitierrez, a researcher. They describe the animal to him, and he quickly identifies it as a basilisk lizard. The description of the daughter's symptoms confirms his hypothesis.
