Act I:
Caesar triumphantly returns to Rome after defeating the forces of Pompey, but not all the Romans are pleased with his victory. Cassius is particularly enl{ious of the ruler's newly-won power and hatches a plot to assassinate him. He discusses Caesar's political gains with Brutus, who fears that the leader may become a tyrant and thus jeopardize the Roman republic. While they talk, they hear cheers from the area where Caesar is celebrating the feast of the Lupercal. They learn from Casca that Mark Antony has offered Caesar the crown three times, and each time he has reluctantly refused it, finally collapsing with an attack of falling-sickness (epilepsy). Cassius and Brutus's conversation ends without a resolution, but Cassius decides to further entice Brutus by sending him forged letters from citizens who fear Caesar's ambition.
