Chapter 12, Dust Storm Summary

Emi is admitted to the camp hospital, and Yuki visits her there. Yuki has a trilobite fossil that she found in the dust of the camp, and she brings it to Emi as a gift. The two friends make gestures to each other through the window, and Yuki is able to determine that Emi is gravely ill.

Yuki starts to return to her room after the hospital visit. She notices that the sky is dark, and a strong wind is blowing dust and sand through the camp. Yuki tries to run home but within just moments is enclosed in a swirling vortex of dust that prevents her from seeing more than a few feet. She quickly becomes disoriented and stumbles into an unknown building where she waits out the terrible dust storm......
