Part II Summary

On a cool day while the party is in a Swiss mountain gorge called Morbio Inferiore, it is discovered that Leo has disappeared. Each member has his own theory about why Leo has vanished, and many, including H.H., have a sense of impending disaster following his disappearance.

The group camps in the gorge and begins to look for Leo. The more they look for him and cannot find him, the more important his disappearance becomes in the minds of the League members. Some take it as a sign that worse things are to come. H.H. explains that while he had unwavering commitment to the League and the Journey before, Leo's disappearance stirred feelings of doubt and sadness. These feelings grow until he loses faith in finding Leo again, which leads to a feeling that.....
