Chapters 17-18 Summary
Chapter 17 focuses on Jean's preparation for the spring formal. As Tory has continued to be nice to Jean, she is a large part in helping Jean prepare for the dance. She tells Jean that it is a tradition for everyone to wear a black dress and, even though Jean feels that her parents would disapprove, she accepts the expensive black dress that Tory buys for her. Jean contemplates how well things are going in her life- a more positive relationship with Tory, her new friendship with Chanelle, her relationship with Zach and the possibility of winning a scholarship to continue attending the Chapman School. Jean expresses her happiness with living with the Gardiners and in New York. On the morning of the dance, Tory, Chanelle and Jean were treated to a spa day by Aunt Evelyn.
