Chapters 5-6 Summary
Jean is back from the hospital after being hit by the bike messenger with only a bump on her head. Aunt Evelyn is tending to her and Jean observes that Tory has been nicer to her since the accident, although Jean is suspicious about why. Jean thinks about the differences between her mother and Aunt Evelyn, noting that her mother does not wear make-up, have a stylish haircut or wear trendy clothing. Although Aunt Evelyn expresses feeling badly that this happened on Jean's first night and that they could not do any of the fun activities they'd planned, Jean apologizes and thinks that now her aunt knows how her mother always feels.
