Chapter 8 - 16 Summary

CNarnie meets up with Webb in an excerpt from Hannah's manuscript. They go to meet Jude and the other Cadets. While there is a war, their meeting is happy and kind, and not the violent stuff of years later. Jellicoe Town hosts a yearly gala for the Cadets and the School students, which all attend. The three territorial factions enter into negotiations after the gala ceremony. The Cadets can rent the river so long as no more than twelve Cadets are there at any one time. Santangelo's mother, the Mayor of the town, tells him to behave. But Jonah Griggs insults Santangelo's mother, which causes an all-out brawl between Cadets, boarding school kids, and the Townies. The police arrive swiftly to arrest everyone. Santangelo's father is a cop, and is also Raffaelo's godfather.
